The City Gates (Montreal, Kanada)* Postpunk * Shoegaze

Hailing from the cold zones of Montreal, Canada, The City Gates create a musical blend of post-punk, shoegaze, and darkwave. Their sound results from a mix of highlights of dark, obscure alternative music drenched in reverb, fuzz, and delays. Their creative process leans on the great chemistry between all the bandmates, and they share a passion for history and social turmoil, which are reflected in their lyrics.  
 
The two LPs, "Age of Resilience" (2021, Icy Cold Records/ Velouria Recordz) and "Forever Orbiter" (2018, Northern Light Records), gained excellent reviews, and the The City Gates is now considered to be one of the most high-quality and unique bands on the global dark scene, gathering a solid following from all around the globe.  
 
The band featured in prestigious magazines such as Sonic Seducer, Orkus, Post-Punk.com, Big Takeover and Longueur d’ondes. Their hybrid sound made The City Gates shared stages with many great acts like Trisomie 21, A Place to Bury Strangers, Actors, HAPAX, Solar Fake, She Pleasures Herself, Days of Sorrow, Vision Video, The Foreign Resort, Bootblacks, NOTHING, Deserta, and many more. TCG toured in the European Union (Poland, Germany, Belgium, and France), the UK, the USA, Canada, and performed at prestigious festivals including the Return to the Batcave, Dark Spring Boston, Kalamashoegazer, Black Web, and the Focus Wales.  
 
Their live shows can be described as a relentless barrage of melodic guitars, explosive drums and aggressive bass, mixed with cathedral-esque vocals, accompanied by energetic performances and visuals. The City Gates is now in the studio to work on their next LP. The first single "Hanged Drawn and Quartered", described by Post-Punk.com as "a spellbinding song", was released at the end of 2022. SUIR (Köln, This Charming Man Rec.)  * Postpunk* Shoegaze

SUIR is a duo based in Cologne, which started in 2017 when Denis Wanic (guitar and vocals) and Lucia Seiß (guitar and bass) joined forces for their band project.

In a constant interplay between the guitars, supported by energetic drum rhythms and melancholic lyrics, SUIR produces reverberated shoegaze and cinematic, atmospheric music defined by by dense and complex sound walls. This rich, velvety sound constantly shifts between post punk, dark shoegaze, heavy cold wave, and psych, but due to their own sound creations, none of these genres can be unambiguously attributed. The music combines heavily influences by contemporary bands like Bleib Modern, The Underground Youth, The KVB, The Brian Jonestown Massacre or shoegaze pioneers like My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

Their live performance is expanded by a visual program which is strongly influenced by the origin of the two from the fields of art history and philosophy and builds a filigree and gloomy overall concept. SUIR has toured from eastern to western Europe, performing as headliner or support acts for artists like The Jesus and Mary Chain, Motorama, Lebanon Hanover, Esben and the Witch, The Underground Youth and The KVB, and appeared at major festivals that include Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT), NCN-Festival and Owls 'n' Bats Festival.

The duo released two full albums, „Ater“ and „Soma“ with Black Verb Records and Manic Depression Records (Vinyl, CD, Tape). 2021 they created „Studio Session“, a live session recording in SUIR’s discography, which was released April 1st by Wave Tension Records (Vinyl, CD, Tape). Their third album „Not all of your pain is self chosen“ is released via This Charming Man Records, October 14th 2022.
