Led by Mask Artisan Kendra Johnson in English—This workshop is designed to inspire creativity and engage adults of all skill levels in playful discovery (or rediscovery), regardless of background—whether you're a student, artist, theater maker, or enthusiast. You'll gain a foundational understanding of mask design, sculpting, and practical mold making and casting techniques, all of which can be applied to future projects, fostering further creative exploration.

The workshop is limited to 12 participants, ensuring personalized instruction and hands-on experience. Each day features 4 hours of active instruction, with two optional 2-hour open labs for additional time and support. Sculpting materials, tools, brushes, paint, and a generic lifecast (a 3-dimential impression of the face) will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own tools and brushes. For those seeking a more tailored experience, we recommend getting your own personalized lifecast at ShapeshiftersFX, (starting price: €250.)

Workshop Overview: Take part in this creative journey and leave with your own unique mask, along with the skills to fuel your ongoing artistic ventures.

Day 1 (Saturday, 14.09) we’ll begin with sculpting and design, focusing on form and character expression. You’ll learn about various materials and sculpting techniques while exploring the history, different types of masks, and their theatrical functions.

Day 2 (Sunday, 15.09) will introduce you to mold making and casting. We’ll cover different types of molds, their applications, materials, and techniques. You’ll create a mold from your sculpted design, preserving your original work and giving you the option for reproductions. We'll use the slipcase method with liquid neoprene casting compound, which cures to a durable, semi-rigid skin, suitable for intricate designs, is easy to clean, and comfortable to wear.

Day 3 (Saturday, 28.09) is dedicated to finishing touches. Learn how to remove the casts, clean up edges, and apply detailing techniques. You’ll then bring your mask to life with painting and finishing. We’ll conclude with a final showcase where you can proudly display your completed pieces and share your creative journey with fellow participants.

Day 4 Add-on (Sunday, 29.09) Elevate your experience with an Intro to Movement, Mask & Clown Workshop, led by Jeremy Vik. Select the special discount package—a €15 savings to participate in this additional workshop. Visit the event page for a detailed description of the workshop.
