Über das Event
Difficult band to pitch, OH NON is a quintet at the crossroads of styles, offering
a reinterpretation of 70s and 80s alternative rock (B-52's, Sonic Youth, Nina
Hagen) and quirky French music (Brigitte Fontaine, Stéréo Total, Les Rita
Mitsouko). With a large universe, endowed of its own logic and symbols, the
insolence, nonchalance and vulnerability lurking in each of us come to light.
The pieces confess certain urban and metaphysical anxieties, between mockery
and diving out of oneself. The lyrics, all in French, take an ironic look at society,
the party scene and relationships with others. Being a part of the French
musical ecosystem without really knowing where to fit, OH NON brings together
various audiences made up of the grumpiest and the bashful around values of
sharing and inclusivity. From buzzing, to scat, from noise, from screams to
melody, here we return from the past to go through the present.
Their debut EP is released in June 2024 followed by a surf-rock single,
"Caïman," released in May 2025 with a music video telling the story of a
summer in Paris where a woman walks her caiman on a leash. The band
continues its creative momentum with the release of "Cette fleur la" on
February 26th, it foreshadows the arrival of their second 9-track EP, "Dans le
salon," with a release party in Paris scheduled for April 22nd at Petit Bain.
OH NON performs live in Paris (La Maroquinerie, La Boule Noire, Le Point
Éphémère, La Bellevilloise, La Marbrerie, etc.) as well as in other regions, in
France such as Brittany and the Basque Country, and internationally (Bilbao,
LInz, Vienna, Berlin, Fribourg, Bern, Zurich, Illirska Birstrica, Amsterdam,
Sevenum, Grauzone Festival). The band now offer its own multidisciplinary
events with a brutalist cabaret feel, the fourth edition of which took place in
Paris on October 21st at Point Ephémère.
OH NON History :
OH NON was born from the musical encounter of Diane (Lead Singer) and Téo
(Bassist, Synth) , based on a shared love of french song, Boris Vian, Claude
Nougaro, Jacques Higelin, Brigitte Fontaine... The initial sketches of songs,
rather electronic, became increasingly instrumental over
time.
After the creation of several demos and a growing desire to take the stage, the
decision was made to expand the band with Ulysse on drums and Rory on
guitar. The band’s lineup is completed with the arrival of a final member,
saxophonist and guitarist: Damien.
In 2022, in this new format, OH NON has been playing the independent cellars
and venues of paris (La Miroiterie, La boule noire, La Maroquinerie, La
Belleviloise).
As the project grows, OH NON performs in Paris and across Europe (Bilbao,Vienna, Berlin, Fribourg, Zurich, Amsterdam, Sevenum, Den Haag, Linz, Illirska, Birstrica, Bern).
Since 2023, the Spooky Nights / OH NON nights they organize at La Marbrerie
and Point Éphémère have been their signature: multidisciplinary evenings
combining concerts, exhibitions, and performances, notably featuring pieces by
Masha Kils, a burlesque figure and collaborator of the group. With an average
of 400 sold-out attendees, these self-produced events allow them to create a
genuine community around the project. In June 2024, they unveiled their debut
eponymous 6-track EP, preceded by a single and its music video:
"Les Filles des Films" (Girls from the movies ), laying the foundations for a
burlesque, dreamlike, and sweetened universe imbued with surrealism.
Their surf rock single, "Caïman," was released in May 2025. Its music video,
telling the story of a summer in Paris, following a woman walking her caïman on
a leash. A spoiled, capricious, and slightly biting creature, it mistakes its
mistress's leg for its meal...
In 2026 they release their second EP « Dans le Salon » this project explores
several musical styles: surf rock, ska, psychedelic rock, synth-pop, jazz, punk,
and other hard-to-classify odds and ends resulting from hazardous mixes and
the addition of new instruments (piano, setar, saxophone, violin). Two tracks
even feature oriental sounds, introduced by the setar—a Persian lute, which
Damien began learning two years ago—but also a nod to Diane's Lebanese
origins and her Middle Eastern musical heritage.
