NOMAD
Directed by Carolina Ortega
Created and performed by Gözde Atalay
Produced: TUCAN RIOT & Mimosa Theatre Co.
Nomad is a biographic physical theatre performance centred in the experiences of Ayşe, a Turkish female immigrant in Europe. Tender and funny, it explores migration through the point of view of three characters - Ayşe, the heroine, and two institutional monsters, Eric (policeman/immigration officer) and the Paper Creature (and absurd embodiment of bureaucracy). Whether work, marriage or refuge is the reason for migration, the period of waiting administrative limbo – which can last years – and the bureaucratic encounters that become the shared experience of all migrants. Based in Gözde’s own journey as an immigrant in Europe.
