Caoilfhionn’s music is rooted in a knowledge of folk, jazz and all the twentieth century’s classic tunesmiths, and seems to create a magical, otherworldly space of her own imagining, blending Caoilfhionn’s core piano with synths, and pitting a live rhythm section and saxophone embellishments against ambient samples and future-facing production techniques.

Um den Servicecharakter nicht zu vergessen: Den Vornamen der britischen Singer-Songwriterin, die nun ihr drittes Album auf dem Auskenner-Label Gondwana präsentiert, spricht man schlicht Keelin aus. Nun könnte man fragen, wieso muss ein so einfacher Name einen solch komplizierten Weg gehen? Das führt aber genauso an allem vorbei, was Musik so schön wie schmerzhaft machen kann. Nehmen wir den für dieses Beispiel perfekt betitelten Song »Simple«. Natürlich kann man einfach auf ein Stück Papier schreiben, dass man jemanden vermisst und die Welt gefährlich groß wirkt, wenn man nicht zusammen ist. Man kann aber auch einen sanft stolpernden Song schreiben, der sich nicht ganz traut, jedes Gefühl unter das Scheinwerferlicht zu stellen, und dabei zerbrechliche Varianten von Jazz, Folk und Pop untermischt. Diese kleinen Umwege geht Caoilfhionn Rose auf »Constellation« immer mal wieder und nutzt dabei das Talent einiger Kolleg:innen wie Saxofonist Jordan Smart der Band Mammal Hands oder Pianist John Ellis, Gründungsmitglied vom Cinematic Orchestra. Das Album ist ohnehin voller Songs, die sich eher wie ein nicht aufgedecktes Geheimnis geben. Songs wie »Rainfall« zum Beispiel sind einer Grouper wesentlich näher als der Musik ihrer oftmals zu schluffigen New-Folk-Kolleg:innen. (entnommen: hhv-mag.com)
