About the event
She is one of the most exceptional songwriters of our time and has been an indispensable part of the cultural landscape, especially since her double album "HAUS" was released in April 2024: Katharina Kollmann aka Nichtseattle. Hardly anyone manages to weave the political and personal together so touchingly in their own songs as she does.
Katharina Kollmann is a songwriter, choir director, and founder of a collective housing project. Her music is as much folk as it is indie rock. She processes the work of East German singer-songwriters like Gerhard Schöne just as naturally as the US American sound of Pixies. "There are no excuses in Nichtseattle's music, no small talk, no fake eroticism and pseudo-sentimentality, no tinsel and no frills. (...) But if you can handle the raw unvarnished nature of Kollmann's soul building site, then it's the most beautiful, warmest and most open home for miles around," wrote Andreas Borcholte enthusiastically in Der Spiegel about her songs.
On September 25, 2026, her fourth album was released with the beautiful title "Große Liebe" (Great Love). In ten songs set between Texas and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, she embarks on a search for probably the most sung-about and written-about topic ever. From Disney to The Beatles, from the theater stage via the novel to endless rom-coms: the ideal of great love preoccupies us all! Whether we want it to or not! And this at a time when birth rates continue to decline and young people consume more pornography than ever before, yet statistically have sex themselves later than ever.
In her songs, Katharina Kollmann finds the love of life primarily in what was once called a clan: in interpersonal spaces, in friendships and solidaristic communities. The proverbial whole village that it takes to raise a child. And above all, she has finally found a permanent band for her songs. In 2019, she had set out as a duo with her album "Wendekind." Since the extremely successful tour for the last album, a playful, permanent 5-piece formation has come together: Sönke Torpus (electric guitar, backing vocals), Juliane Graf (bass, backing vocals), Sebastian Albin (drums), and Gregor Lener (trumpet, flugelhorn, synthesizer).
With this band, she not only recorded the album—guitarist Sönke Torpus shared the role of producer with Katharina Kollmann on this album—but they also tour together on the "Große Liebe" tour 2026/2027.
