Große, laute, tolle Band mit starken Frauen - wir freuen uns riesig auf dieses Wiedersehen. Skye Wallace hat seit ihrem letzten Konzert hier große Schritte in Richtung Popularität gemacht - zurecht. Denn es erwartet euch eine leidenschaftliche, mitreißende Performance - musikalisch wild, textlich klug.

"Mit ihrer Fähigkeit, Melodien und verspielte Momente aus einem Rock-Fundament zu kreieren, ist Wallace eine Expertin darin, sich in jedem Raum und auf Schritt und Tritt zu beweisen. Ihre neueste Single “Everything Is Fine” beginnt mit der wohl naheliegendsten Frage nach über zwei Jahren Pandemie, die die Musikerin sich selbst und einem Freund stellt: “How are you”? 

Das zugehörige Musikvideo zeigt eine wunderbare Interpretation dessen, was es bedeutet, als Levis-Jeans tragende Kreatur aus dem Sumpf im Alltag der Großstadt über die Runden zu kommen. Bescheidenheit und Ehrlichkeit sind wichtige Eigenschaften und „Everything Is Fine“ unterstreicht, dass Verletzlichkeit auch das sein kann, was eine Person stark macht. Wie in einer 90er-Jahre-MTV-Hymne erhebt sich im neuen Track Wallace' Stimme bittersüß über grungigen Gitarren und einer hämmernden Kick-Drum, ohne dabei ins Wanken zu geraten.

Geprägt von einer Erziehung in ständiger Bewegung, in der Zusammenbruch und Wiederaufbau im Mittelpunkt stehen, ist Wallace mit dem Gedanken vertraut, dass Veränderung – insbesondere bei sich selbst – eine Konstante ist. Diese Erkenntnis, die zu gleichen Teilen empirisch und emotional ist, prägt ihre neuen Songs, die während des Lockdowns entstanden sind, aber von einer Zeit handeln, in der das Verbleiben an einem Ort tatsächlich ein Wunschdenken war. With her skill in carving melodies and shreddable moments from rock foundations, songwriter Skye Wallace is an expert at proving herself in every room, at every turn. Wallace knows the way is paved with second-guessers, and encounters with unsolicited advisors are plentiful in this world. In truth, the harshest critic is usually within.   

Shaped by an upbringing of constant motion, with collapse and rebuilding at the core, Wallace is at home with the idea that change, especially in oneself, is a constant. This truism has shaped her new songs, finished during lockdown but dealing with a time when staying in one place was wishful thinking. For Wallace, there’s both comfort and conflict in remembering and reconciling the versions of herself formed at the many stops along the way.   

Wallace’s breakout single, about the frustrations of fighting against the glass ceiling, made a statement by cracking the Canadian alternative radio chart. Early credentials, including a Globe and Mail “Best 4 Canadian Albums in the World” nod in 2019, a steady stream of shows with powerhouse rockers like Crown Lands and Matt Mays and a deal with Six Shooter Records, have Wallace ready for what’s next.  

In new song “Truth Be Told,” a searching, slashing acid-tongued rocker, Wallace decodes the signals sent from previous selves to make sense of the whole. A hard look gut-check with squalling guitars, Wallace’s brand of introspection is more disruptive than meditative. Spirit Award

Spirit Award aus Seattle spielten 2019 ihr Hafen 2 Debüt und kehren nun zurück auf ihrer Release-Tour des neuen Albums The Fear:

The new album, co-produced/mixed by Trevor Spencer (Beach House, Father John Misty), is an exploration of the supernatural, love, dreaming/waking, and most of all facing the things that scare you or you think you can’t do, all encompassed in a warping and changing landscape. Shedding your perceived notions of what you think life or the world is and being open to new ideas or experiences. The Fear is intended as a meditation, a release of energy and putting positivity and motivation for creating love and joy, challenging what you were raised in or what society tells you to believe. Finding what rings true to you based on your experience, enjoying the journey with plenty of room to ask questions and entertain the mystical.

Seattle based three-piece Spirit Award are known for their unique mix of sprawling stereo guitars, stunningly moody soundscapes and a driving drum and bass foundation. While Spirit Award are aptly capable of generating catchy psych moments, there seems to be no calculable formula to their writing style. Comprised of Daniel Lyon, Chris Moore and Terence Ankeny, the trio’s mutual goal in creating a sound with grit and authenticity is clearly evident throughout their music.
